Press Releases 2007
La Boheme, Saturday , 4th August, 2007 at 4.00 pm (gardens open from 2.00 pm)
This year's event will be a sublime production of La Bohème performed by Opera Box, which will enrapture the audience with enchanting music, magnificently performed in Italian by some of the finest singers in the country and exquisite period costumes.
Paris may be for lovers, but in Puccini’s beloved opera, poverty threatens to extinguish the flame. In their chilly garret, Mimi and Rodolfo keep each other warm, yet wonder if their love will always burn so brightly. Will the warmth of love outlast the chill of winter?
Opera Box was founded in 1988 and has established for itself an enviable reputation for opera performances of the highest quality, touring to outdoor and indoor venues across the length and breadth of the country. Clear productions with fine singing, beautiful traditional costumes and striking sets have been the hallmark of the company's success. Many of the company's singers have worked for the major British opera companies including the Royal Opera House - Covent Garden, ENO, WNO, Opera North and Glyndebourne Festival Opera.
The opera setting is the magnificent gardens of 17th century Culross Abbey House, home of Lord and Lady Bruce, using the Abbey House, as a unique backdrop, to enhance both the sound and atmosphere of the performance.
Since 1996, the Culross Festival has staged an outdoor opera each summer in the gardens of the Abbey House. Audiences are invited to bring picnics and enjoy the unique outdoor experience of world class singers performing in a beautiful historic setting.
Arrangements for inclement weather have been made for outdoor shows.
Guide dogs only, allowed in gardens.
Ample parking beside Abbey House.
