Culross Burgh Fayre Bel Canto is an Edinburgh-based a capella group which was founded by the current director, David Buchanan-Cook, in 1988. The group specialises in performing Early music as it would originally have been performed - with one or two voices to each musical line - however, over the years the repertoire has been extended to include works from all periods and styles, including some specially-commissioned pieces. The Group has performed widely throughout Scotland, and has also made a series of radio broadcasts. Regular events include annual concert series for the National Trust for Scotland and also the National Galleries.
The Group's return visit to the Culross Burgh Fayre will find them performing a selection of English madrigals. Some of these were written for a collection in honour of Elizabeth the First entitled "The Triumphs Of Oriana", others, including the famous Fair Phyllis and The Silver Swan, may be better known to those who are familiar with the English madrigal school.
